Pune: A woman call centre employee (22) from Yerawada was found dead in the waters of Mula-Mutha river on Wednesday afternoon in Kharadi.
The Kharadi police said that the woman had jumped into the river from the bridge in Mundhwa on Tuesday afternoon.
Due to the water current, rescue teams did not find her in the same area, but she was swept away to nearer Kharadi. The woman was a native of Mhada in Solapur district. Police have registered an accidental death report in this regard on Wednesday evening.
According to the police, the woman was employed at a call centre in Yerawada. Around 3pm on Tuesday, she placed her mobile phone and purse on the railing of the new bridge in Mundhwa and jumped into the river. On receiving information about the incident, some residents jumped into the river in an attempt to rescue her, but their efforts failed due to the strong current.
Meanwhile, a team from the fire brigade reached the spot. The search operation continued until late on Tuesday night, but was unsuccessful. The search resumed on Wednesday morning, and her body was found around 1pm some distance away.
The police informed her parents about her death. The parents told the police that she had been under mental stress for the past few months owing to some reasons.
