Builder cheated by online fraudsters of Rs 2.55 lakhs in piped gas scam
Pune: Online fraudsters, who posed as officials of a piped gas company, cheated a city builder of Rs 2.55 lakhs stating that the builder has not paid the pending dues of the piped gas.The cheating, according to the Cantonment police, took place on May 8. After verifying the complaint application, the police registered the case of cheating on Sunday.According to the police, the builder’s office has a gas connection and it is used to make tea and other snacks for the office staff. The complainant is an admin officer of the construction company and is a resident of Yevalewadi.Police said that the admin officer received a message from the fraudsters stating that the gas bill had not been paid. She clicked on the link in the message and a form popped up. The form claimed that by filling in details, one can pay the pending dues of the piped gas.She used the company’s debit card to pay the bill by filling out the form. However, it was link to a remote access software, and the suspects took control of her debit card and fraudsters siphoned off Rs 2.55 lakhs using the debit card.
