Patna: Patna Municipal Corporation (PMC) marked a historic milestone by collecting more than Rs 63 crore in property tax and solid waste management charges between April 1 and Dec 29 this year. Officials said the remarkable performance across all municipal circles reflected the strength, transparency and effectiveness of the ongoing tax collection drive for the financial year 2025-26.
Data from the P-Tax portal showed that offline collections amounted to approximately Rs 29 crore while online payments reached around Rs 33 crore. “The dominance of online payments highlights the growing confidence and awareness among citizens regarding digital transactions. Payments were received from a total of 1,77,503 holdings during this period, out of which 1,04,847 holdings chose the online mode,” Municipal Commissioner Yashpal Meena said on Tuesday.
He added that performance was particularly strong in the Patliputra, New Capital, and Bankipur circles, while the Azimabad, Kankarbagh, and Patna City circles also recorded consistent and satisfactory growth in holding tax payments.
Revenue from solid waste management charges met expected targets across all six circles.
The One-Time Settlement (OTS) scheme, launched to clear pending property tax arrears, delivered impressive results. Between Dec 9 and Dec 29, it generated over Rs 5.92 crore in revenue from 16,220 holdings, including online payments from 9,267 holdings.
“Broader collections under the scheme for property tax included Rs 31 crore offline and Rs 27 crore online. By facilitating the resolution of long-pending dues and bolstering financial resources, the OTS scheme emerged as a key success. Property owners can still benefit from a full waiver of interest and penalties through a one-time principal payment, as the scheme remains valid until Mar 31, 2026,” Meena said.
Officials of the civic body urged citizens to continue paying property tax and solid waste management charges promptly in the remaining months of the financial year 2025-26.
