No arrest so far in suspected honour killing case

Patna: No arrest has been made so far in the suspected honour killing of a 19-year-old youth and a 16-year-old girl, whose mutilated bodies were recovered from the Patna-Gaya railway track near Pothi halt under Dhanarua police station area of Patna district on Sept 12. The couple had run away from home on Sept 6, and a case of kidnapping was registered against the youth by the girl's family on Sept 7.According to police, investigations have revealed signs of assault on their bodies, leading to the suspicion of honour killing. The police are now investigating which family may be responsible for the heinous act.Masaurhi SDPO-2, Kanhaiya Singh, said, “An FIR has been filed against 12 named persons and 30-40 unnamed persons based on the complaints filed by the youth Subodh’s mother. The accused are family members and relatives of the deceased girl. Raids are being carried out to nab them. We have got some clues, and revelations in the matter are likely to be made on Sunday.”Police suspect that the couple may have gotten married as a photo on social media showing the girl wearing sindoor has gone viral. The two were reportedly living together in a rented house in Patna’s Ramkrishna Nagar locality.According to police sources, Subodh and the girl, Ragini, were studying in Class 10 and both had enrolled at the same coaching centre in Dhanarua. Ragini attended the 5pm batch, while Subodh was in the 6pm batch. One day, Subodh noticed Ragini, managed to get her phone number, and later contacted her. Their friendship soon deepened, and their love story blossomed.
