Ara: In a major breakthrough in the Ara Tanishq showroom robbery case in which seven robbers had looted jewellery worth Rs 10 crore in March last year, the Bhojpur police on Friday arrested the main accused, Baba alias Sourabh Tiwari (25), a resident of Bithauli in Vaishali district. According to the police, he was the kingpin of the six other robbers who acted as his associates in the sensational broad daylight robbery at the showroom located at Gopali Chowk, the commercial hub of Ara.
Ara sadar SDPO-1 Raj Kumar Shah said, “Out of the seven robbers who had entered the Ara Tanishq showroom in March last year, Sourabh was the last one to enter wearing a helmet and it was he who had come out after the robbery with the looted bag containing the jewellery.”
“Other six criminals acted as the associates of Baba in the robbery. Police have so far recovered two out of three looted bags and 750-gram gold jewellery from the third bag that Sourabh took away after the robbery,” the SDPO added.
According to the Bhojpur police, altogether 26 accused have been arrested in the case so far, who either provided shelter to the robbers or assisted them as accomplices in the crime. “While two accused, Chunmun Jha and Prince Kumar, were killed in police encounter in Araria and Vaishali, respectively,” said the SDPO.
