Excise team attacked in Bettiah, 3 cops injured

Bettiah: At least three policemen were injured and a vehicle damaged after villagers attacked an excise team during a raid at Kathhar Tola under Dhanaha police station area on Sunday night, officials said on Monday.

Excise SHO, Pramod Kumar, said the raid was carried out near the Bihar-UP border following a tip-off about a liquor smuggler. When the team tried to nab the suspect, he sped away on his bike but lost balance and fell.

The incident angered local villagers, who allegedly attacked the team and vandalised its vehicle. The excise police have launched a probe to identify those involved and are conducting raids to arrest them.
