Family members said Piyush left home on Friday afternoon for the field, but did not return by evening. His relatives searched him and informed the Piparia police station late in the night. Police, accompanied by the family, searched the area and located the body in the early hours on Saturday in the diara region, with gunshot wounds in the head, neck, and other parts of the body. The body was sent to Sadar Hospital, Lakhisarai, for the postmortem.Preliminary investigations point to a land dispute as the likely motive for the killing, with needle of suspicion moving to Piyush’s own friends. Police detained an acquaintance for questioning, while another is still absconding. Raids are being conducted to arrest them, police said.Authorities registered a case against unidentified assailants.Shivam Kumar, SDPO of Lakhisarai, said the motive behind the murder was not clear yet. “Police are investigating all angles. The FSL team was called to the crime spot to gather evidence. The victim’s family accused his friends of killing him. Based on the complaint, the police detained a person for questioning. Further investigation is underway,” he said.
