PATNA: BJP on Monday hit out at the opposition pick for vice-president’s post, B Sudarshan Reddy, for meeting RJD chief Lalu Prasad and seeking his support in the election to be held on Tuesday.
Patna Sahib MP Ravi Shankar Prasad said the retired Supreme Court judge lowered the dignity by meeting and seeking favour from a person convicted in fodder scam and who is not even a member of Parliament.
“When a judge comes into the electoral arena and talks big, questions are bound to arise. On the one hand, he sought votes “to save the soul of the nation”, and on the other hand, he met Lalu, who is convicted in the fodder scam. What kind of retired Supreme Court judge are you that you are meeting a person who is guilty in the scam? This is hypocrisy. Please do not talk about the soul of the nation,” Prasad told reporters.
Deputy CM Samrat Choudhary also attacked the opposition candidate for the VP post. He called the Lalu family a “symbol of loot and corruption” and said sarcastically that the RJD chief can only get an award for theft.
However, Congress state president Rajesh Ram said the BJP was making baseless allegations.
“Why is the election of the 15th vice-president being held? For what reasons did Dhankar Ji resign, even though his term was till Aug 10, 2027? B Sudarshan Reddy met the presidents of all the national political parties and in the same sequence he also met Lalu Ji, who is the national chief of the RJD,” he said.
He said the election for the post of President and VP is never fought on party symbols. “BJP is afraid of the opposition candidate because he will work according to the Constitution, and not to serve the personal interests of any particular person,” the Kutumba MLA said.
