Nashik: Six people were killed and more than 25 were injured in a two-part accident involving two dumper trucks and a private luxury travel bus at Laling Ghat in Dhule, about 150km from Nashik city, in the early hours of Monday, the police said.
The police said first, there was a head-on collision between the two trucks after one vehicle entered the wrong side of the highway and rammed the other one approaching from the Dhule side around 2.30am. About an hour later, while the police, local residents and toll plaza personnel were clearing the wreckage, a Mumbai-Indore travel bus crashed into the stationary trucks, causing greater damage.
Additional SP Ajay Deore said, “Overall, there were 34 victims. While six died, others suffered injuries.” He said the deceased were the bus driver, one of the truck drivers, two people assisting in clearing the road, and two bus passengers. The police said identification of the victims took time due to the severity of the crash.
The Mohadi police were in the process of registering an FIR till late evening.
Traffic on the highway was severely affected following the accident as rescue and clearance operations continued.
