Nashik district dams have over 32% water stock
Nashik: The district’s major and medium dams currently hold 23TMC of live water stock — 32.6% of their total capacity of 70.6TMC — as of May 15, 2026, indicating an improved water position compared to last year, officials said.
According to the irrigation department’s report, storage levels are higher than the 18.4TMC (26%) recorded during the same period in 2025 across the district’s 26 projects, including seven major and 19 medium dams. At present, there is no water discharge from any of these reservoirs.
The Gangapur dam complex, the primary source of drinking water for Nashik city, is in a relatively better position this year.
“The situation in the Gangapur dam complex that provides drinking water to residents in Nashik is better than last year. The India Meteorological Department has already issued warnings related to El Niño, which is likely to weaken the monsoon. We will have to use water appropriately,” an official said.
The Gangapur complex — including Gangapur, Gautami Godavari and Kashyapi dams — currently holds about 4.7TMC of water, or 51.3% of its 9.3TMC capacity, compared to 36% last year.
The Girna valley complex has the largest share of water stock, with 7.9TMC stored against its total capacity of 23TMC (34.7%), an improvement over 28.2% recorded last year.
The Palkhed dam complex stands at 1.9TMC of storage out of 10.6TMC capacity (22.9%), also significantly higher than last year’s 12.7%.
Meanwhile, other major and medium projects outside these clusters together account for around 3.5TMC of water in the district.
