AU Senate Clears 390-Cr Budget; Infra, Skills Priority

Amravati: The Senate on Thursday unanimously approved Sant Gadge Baba Amravati University's Rs390.16 crore budget for 2026-27, with a deficit of Rs76.02 crore, after some amendments. The university allotted Rs205.40 crore for recurring expenses, Rs54.10 crore for development, and Rs130.66 crore for independent projects.Vice-chancellor Milind Barhate, who presided over the meeting, stated that the budget, which was presented by Management Council member Avinash Borde, aims to promote academic excellence and support students' overall development.The university submitted proposals worth Rs121 crore to the govt for projects, including infrastructure development and skill centres. There are plans to establish a skill development centre at Melghat and a science centre, with proposed funding of Rs29.92 crore and Rs17 crore, respectively. Provision of Rs15.10 crore was made for a synthetic track and football field.Of the Rs314.14 crore expected revenue, Rs74.26 crore to come from grants, Rs56.38 crore from exam fees, and Rs4.26 crore from postgraduate courses.The budget allotted Rs1.19 crore for knowledge resource centre, Rs4.01 crore for sports, and Rs54.63 crore for general services and administration. The university has also allocated Rs86.13 lakh for student council programme and Rs66.13 lakh for teacher and employee welfare. Rs1 crore was set aside for disaster planning and Rs1.08 crore for student safety insurance. The budget also includes Rs41.39 crore for development and Rs18.10 crore for the corpus fund.Of the Rs20 crore received under the PM-USHA scheme for infrastructure development, Rs18.46 crore was allotted. The budget also includes provisions for scholarships, research grants, and faculty development programmes.A sub-centre will be set up at Akola for which Rs6.87 crore have been set aside, besides Rs1.98cr for a museum. There is provision for social initiatives and community development programmes.Pro-vice-chancellor Mahendra Dhore, and registrar Avinash Asanare, along with other dignitaries and Senate members were present at the meeting.The university's financial management team worked to ensure utilization of resources, focusing on academic excellence and student welfare. The budget reflects university's commitment to provide quality education and promote research.
