Mysuru: Krishnaraja MLA TS Srivathsa on Tuesday urged the state govt to commemorate the birth anniversary of legendary Carnatic musician Mysuru K Vasudevacharya.
Speaking to reporters, Srivathsa said such a move would help preserve and honour Vasudevacharya’s immense contribution to Carnatic music. “Mysuru K Vasudevacharya’s contribution to Carnatic music is invaluable. He was the guru of Maharaja Jayachamaraja Wadiyar and was honoured with the prestigious Sangeetha Kalanidhi award by the Madras Music Academy,” he said.
Srivathsa recalled that during the inauguration of last year’s Dasara music festival, he appealed to the chief minister to organise an event in memory of Vasudevacharya.
“The chief minister assured that from this year onwards, a programme will be organised in his memory. That assurance must now be fulfilled,” he added.
He further noted that Vasudevacharya’s birth anniversary falls on May 28, and urged the chief minister to immediately issue directions to begin the celebrations from this year itself.
Meanwhile, as part of the birth anniversary celebrations, a special programme has been organised at Sri Bidaram Krishnappa Ramamandira on Narayana Shastri Road in collaboration with the department of Kannada and culture.
The programme will start at 10.30 am.
The event will feature a lecture-demonstration titled 'Vasudeva Vaggeya Vaibhava’ by renowned musician and scholar Dr TS Sathyavathi from Bengaluru. She will be supported vocally by Vidushis Archana Bhoj, Shilpa Shashidhar, Anjana P Rao and Lavanya Krishnamurthy. The programme will also feature accompaniment by Vidu Aditi Krishnaprakash on violin and Vid GS Ramanujan on mridanga.
