Madikeri: Compassion and humanity with the patients reflect the personality of the doctor, said Dr Raj Narayan Tiwari, director, Indian Council of Medical Research.
Speaking at the graduation day celebration of the Kodagu Institute of Medical Sciences (KIMS), he said that the medical profession is not only about providing treatment but also about compassion. He opined that people approach the doctor not only for health problems, but also on the basis of trust.
Stressing the importance of community medicine in PG studies, he said that research in the field of medicine should be given high priority. The role of doctors is crucial for India to become a developed nation by 2047. He said that the responsibility of maintaining the health of the country lies with young doctors.
Kodagu District Guarantee Scheme Implementation Committee president TM Dharmaja Uthappa opined that the service of doctors plays an important role in shaping the future of the country.
On this occasion, Dr Jairam of Mandya district deposited Rs 2.5 lakh in the college as a memorial to his wife, a native of Kodagu, and distributed Rs 10,000 as interest to those who secured first marks in the postgraduate department of obstetrics and gynaecology.
Dr Lokesh AJ, director and dean of KIMS, Rohini KM, chief administrative officer, Dr Somashekar, medical superintendent and Dr Nanjundaiah, district surgeon, were present.
