Man smuggles gold worth 1cr, arrested
Mumbai: A 28-year-old man from south Mumbai was arrested for smuggling 1.5 kg of gold worth Rs 1.15 crore. Fearing he would be caught, he dumped the contraband in a dustbin near the baggage belt at Mumbai airport. Based on digital profiling, the Air Intelligence Unit (AIU) of Customs intercepted Abdul Kadir Shaikh, who arrived from Dubai. Customs officials said they were keeping surveillance on him based on profiling through the Advanced Passenger Information System (APIS). Officials said he went to the toilet, dumped a bag in the garbage bin, and came out.
