The Civil Service Commission of Kuwait has announced a nationwide public holiday on Sunday, January 18, to mark Isra and Miraj for the year 1447 AH. The commission confirmed that work will be suspended across all ministries, government agencies, authorities, and public institutions for the day, with normal operations resuming on Monday, January 19. Agencies and institutions with special operational requirements will continue essential services based on schedules set by their competent authorities, ensuring public needs are met while staff observe the holiday.
Officials highlighted that these arrangements aim to balance key operational requirements with the observance of Isra and Miraj. Institutions with critical functions will determine holiday schedules accordingly in line with public interest, as needed, allowing essential services to continue without interruption.

What is Isra and Miraj?

Isra and Miraj is a significant event in Islam that commemorates the night journey of Prophet Muhammad from Mecca to Jerusalem (Isra) and his subsequent ascension to the heavens (Miraj). It is a time of spiritual reflection for Muslims, emphasizing faith, devotion, and the miraculous experiences of the Prophet. The observance is marked with prayers, religious gatherings, and recognition of the event’s historical and spiritual importance.
