Maharashtra: 24-year-old electrician convicted for attacking man over money, let off for attempt to murder

Thane: A sessions court has convicted a 24-year-old electrician for voluntarily causing grievous hurt to a man following a dispute over money allegedly demanded for liquor and drugs, while acquitting him of the charge of attempt to murder.In a judgment dated April 20, Additional Sessions Judge V. L. Bhosale held Sanket Dattu Satpute guilty relating to causing grievous hurt with a sharp weapon. The prosecution case stated that on March 7, 2023, during Holi, the accused allegedly lured the victim, Manoj Mahadev Malusare, to an isolated spot near Patani Road in Kalwa and stabbed him in the abdomen. The victim sustained a serious injury requiring around 70 stitches and was admitted to a hospital. According to the victim's testimony, the accused had been demanding money from him, and the attack followed his refusal. An eyewitness corroborated the presence of the accused at the scene, stating he saw him with a knife and fleeing immediately after the victim collapsed.The court observed that medical evidence established the injury as grievous and caused by a sharp weapon. However, it noted that the injury was inflicted on the lower abdomen, and did not damage vital organs.
