Note-worthy: Monkey snatches lawyers bag with Rs 2 lakh, showers cash from court tree

Meerut: A monkey snatched a bag containing nearly Rs 2 lakh from an advocate at Bulandshahr court complex on Saturday, climbed a neem tree and scattered Rs 500 notes from a branch before it was lured away with bananas and a packaged juice. Advocate Ravindra Kumar alias Raju had come to the court complex to execute a property sale deed and was heading to buy stamp papers with his associates when the monkey grabbed the bag and climbed the tree near the premises. The simian appeared to have mistaken the bag for one carrying food, but found bundles of cash after opening it.What followed was a note-worthy spectacle. The monkey began pulling out the notes and tossing them into the air, sending lawyers, litigants and passers-by rushing to collect the falling cash while others recorded the scene on mobile phones. Videos of the incident later circulated on social media, drawing amused reactions from users. Witnesses said local residents, advocates and court visitors helped gather the scattered money and returned it to Kumar. Nearly Rs 1.98 lakh was recovered, while four to five notes were reportedly torn by the monkey during the commotion.The incident also revived complaints about the monkey menace around the district court premises. Advocate Tushar Singhal said, “The menace of monkeys is increasing near the district court premises. They have attacked several visitors. Complaints have been made to municipal corporation but no action was taken.” Locals said monkeys had become a regular nuisance in and around the court area, often targeting bags, food packets and loose items carried by visitors.
