Meerut: A fire at a rented house in Krishna Nagar Daurali under Pallavpuram police station claimed the lives of Sagar Giri (35) and his daughter
Shivani (8) early Monday. Ten others sustained severe burns and remain critical.
The blaze broke out around 2 am while the family was asleep, filling the house with smoke and leaving all 12 occupants unconscious. Neighbors alerted police and fire services, who rescued the victims after hours of effort.
Sagar and Shivani were declared dead at a local hospital; the others are undergoing treatment. The house, owned by
Satish Kumar, was shared by two families. The fire also destroyed goods worth about ₹10 lakh, along with a scooter and two motorcycles.
Daurala circle officer Prakash Chandra Agarwal said a short circuit might have caused the fire.
The house is owned by one Satish Kumar, a resident of Kila Parikshitgarh. There are two shops at the front portion of the house from where one Krishna Pal runs his tent business. The rear portion has five rooms and two kitchens, where two families live on rent.
