Meerut: A couple and their three children were killed after their motorcycle rammed into a truck on national highway-34 in Bulandshahr on Friday evening, police said.
The accident took place near Bhaisoli cut under Dehat Kotwali when
Uttam Singh (45), riding with his family on a motorcycle, crashed into the rear of a truck after the heavy vehicle slowed down suddenly.
SSP Dinesh Kumar Singh stated that the family was returning from a pilgrimage to the
Vaishno Devi temple in Jammu. They had parked the motorcycle at the Khurja railway station before their trip and returned on Thursday night. After staying with relatives in Khurja, they were heading to their home in Dhameda Kirat village when the accident occurred.
Uttam had borrowed the motorcycle from a friend. Riding pillion were his wife Urmila (40) and their three children — Nishant (8), Disha (6) and Anayra (4).
The truck driver sped away, but police later traced the Haryana-registered truck, though the driver managed to escape.
Uttam worked at a private company. Nishant studied in Class 3, Disha in Class 2 while Anayra was in Class 1. The family is survived by a two-year old daughter who stayed at home with grandparents.
