Bijnor govt officials asked to observe weekly ‘no vehicle day’
Bijnor: In a bid to reduce fuel consumption and encourage sustainable practices, the Bijnor district administration has directed govt officials to observe a weekly “no vehicle day.”
Under the initiative, led by DM Jasjit Kaur, officers and govt employees have been asked to avoid using private vehicles for commuting to work one day every week. They have instead been encouraged to use public transport, adopt carpooling, or opt for other eco-friendly modes of travel.
The move follows Prime Minister Narendra Modi’s appeal for reducing fuel conservation, and aims to promote energy-saving measures across govt offices.
Besides reducing fuel consumption, the initiative aims to also spread awareness on sustainable mobility among residents. The administration has appealed to citizens to support the campaign by limiting unnecessary vehicle use and relying more on public buses, shared transport, cycling, or walking whenever possible.
The district administration has also directed govt departments to minimise unnecessary electricity and gas consumption in offices. Employees have been advised to switch off lights, air conditioners and other electrical equipment when not in use.
