Udupi police roll out ‘Locked House Beat System’ to guard homes during absences
Mangaluru: To enhance the safety of houses left locked during travel or work-related absences, Udupi district police have launched the ‘Locked House Beat System' (LHBS), under which police personnel will keep special watch over such homes until the owners return.Under the system, residents leaving their houses locked while travelling or attending other programmes can inform the Udupi District Police Control Room by calling the dedicated number 0820-2526709.Homeowners must also send details to the control room's WhatsApp number, including the date and time of departure and return, the exact residential address, and a selfie photograph taken in front of the house. The district control room will forward the information to the concerned police station. Beat staff in the jurisdiction will then regularly visit the house and monitor its safety during both day and night until the specified return date and time. The police clarified that the facility is available only for individual houses and does not apply to apartments or multi-storey flats. The department has also urged the public not to share details or information about their homes with any unauthorised or unfamiliar phone numbers.
