Panambur police save Hassan farmer attempting suicide
Mangaluru: In a timely humane intervention, Panambur police rescued a farmer from Hassan district who was allegedly attempting to jump into the Phalguni river near Kulur bridge on Friday.
City police commissioner Sudheer Kumar Reddy CH stated that a resident of a village near Shravanabelagola, Channarayapatna taluk of Hassan district, reportedly left his house without informing anyone due to health issues and minor financial difficulties, and refused to disclose his whereabouts to his family. He is said to have repeatedly told them that he intended to end his life.
After learning that he was near Panambur Beach, relatives contacted Panambur police inspector Salim Abbas through a retired police officer around 5.30pm and sought urgent help to save him. Inspector Abbas immediately launched a search operation. The team traced the man’s movements and attempted to counsel him over the phone.
However, despite repeated efforts to console him, he remained unresponsive. After an intensive search lasting nearly one-and-a-half hours, police finally located him around 7pm near Kulur bridge, where he was allegedly preparing to jump into the Phalguni river.
Although the location fell under the Kavoor police jurisdiction, Panambur police intervened without delay and saved the man’s life. He was brought to the police station, and counselled. Later, he was safely handed over to relatives who thanked Panambur police for saving the man’s life.
Senior officials appreciated the efforts of inspector Salim Abbas and his team SI Jnanashekar, ASI Subrahmanya, and officers including Surendra, Deepak, Imtiyaz, Rakesh, Fakkiresh, Sharan Basava, Anwar, Manjunath and others.
