A terrifying gun battle erupted just outside the White House, only meters away from US President Donald Trump, triggering panic and a massive security response in the heart of Washington DC. According to the US Secret Service, the suspect approached a security checkpoint near the White House shortly after 6 p.m. ET, pulled a weapon from his bag, and opened fire on officers guarding the presidential complex. Reports said the gunman fired between 10 and 20 shots before Secret Service agents returned fire, fatally shooting the suspect. The suspect, identified as 21-year-old Nasire Best of Maryland, later died at a nearby hospital.
