Viswanathan Anand inaugurates chess camp in Madurai

Madurai: Five-time world chess champion Grandmaster Viswanathan Anand on Thursday inaugurated a three-day master chess coaching programme for young players in Madurai.The programme is being held at the Velammal campus in Madurai and attracted more than 400 students from across Tamil Nadu. The training sessions focus on advanced chess concepts, including tactics and strategy, opening preparation, endgames, pawn structures, and understanding opponents' playing styles.
Anand spoke to the students about the importance of continuous training and adaptability in chess. "Success can only be achieved through constant effort and learning. Players understand what is happening on the chessboard and make decisions within a short time," he said. Anand added that studying the moves of top players helps young talents understand positional movement and strategic thinking.He said that strong players are emerging from countries such as Turkey, Uzbekistan, Russia, China, the United States, and Pakistan.
