Baraat horror caught on camera: Vehicle ploughs into dancing guests, Congress leader among 4 injured

RAIPUR: A wedding procession in Chhattisgarh’s Janjgir-Champa district turned chaotic when a speeding heavy vehicle rammed into guests dancing to a DJ near the venue, injuring four people — including a senior Congress functionary — and leaving one of the victims in critical condition.The incident took place in Birra police station limits when the baraat was moving along the roadside and guests were dancing in a cluster near the road. Witnesses said the vehicle, described locally as a capsule vehicle, suddenly veered into the crowd, triggering panic as celebrations gave way to screams and a rush to pull out the injured.Police said four persons suffered injuries. One of them was referred to Bilaspur in a serious condition, while the remaining three are being treated locally. Among those injured is Tara Chand Dewangan, district Congress president of neighbouring Sarangarh-Bilaigarh, who sustained injuries in the impact.Angry guests reportedly caught the driver and assaulted him before police reached the spot. Birra police later detained the driver, seized the vehicle and registered a case. The driver told police he had dozed off, causing him to lose control, officials said, adding that the circumstances are being verified as part of the investigation.A video of the incident has surfaced on social media, showing the moment the vehicle enters the wedding crowd and the ensuing stampede-like scramble, as people run to safety and others rush towards the injured.
