Bomb threat targets Ludhiana homes of mayor, global music icon Diljit Dosanjh.
Police searched the municipal corporation’s Zone-A office building inLudhiana on Monday after a series of bomb threats on email
Ludhiana: A rogue group claiming affiliation with a separatist movement has issued a series of bomb threats targeting govt installations and the properties of international Punjabi music icon Diljit Dosanjh.Official govt inboxes, including that of the Ludhiana municipal commissioner, received the threat via email at 7.28am on Monday. The sender warned of imminent blasts at the municipal office, the residence of mayor Inderjit Kaur, and a local property owned by Dosanjh. The security alert triggered an immediate evacuation of the municipal corporation’s Zone-A office building near Ludhiana’s historical clock tower. Police, accompanied by bomb disposal squads and anti-sabotage teams, conducted exhaustive sweeps of the govt offices, the mayor’s home, and Dosanjh’s house. Cops reported finding no explosives or suspicious items.Police said the digital threat had specified an ultimatum leading up to June 6, warning that the mayor’s office would be struck at 1.11pm and Dosanjh’s home at 9.11pm. The email also threatened retaliation against anyone assisting the singer.
The intimidation campaign follows recent political friction surrounding Dosanjh during his international tour. At a recent concert in Canada, the singer ordered the removal of some people who were displaying separatist posters in the crowd. While local reports emerged that miscreants had fired gunshots at the Haryana home of Dosanjh’s manager, Gurpartap Singh Kang, on May 13, Haryana police stated they had found no physical evidence of a shooting on the scene and received no formal complaint.Ludhiana has faced a string of recent hoax email threats targeting local schools and govt offices, none of which have resulted in arrests.Deputy commissioner of police Jaskiranjit Singh Teja confirmed that security teams had vetted all locations. While Dosanjh resides abroad primarily, police cleared the Ludhiana property where the artist and his relatives lived earlier.“The state cyber cell has taken over the investigation to trace the origin of these threat emails,” Teja said.
