Lucknow: On the directives of the high court, the UP govt has initiated the exercise to redeploy surplus teachers to deficit schools to ensure that each school has at least two teachers. UP has 1,605 single teacher schools, 458 zero teacher schools and there is only one shiksha mitra (para teacher) in 508.Additional chief secretary, basic and secondary education, Partha Sarthi Sen Sharma has written to DMs asking them to begin redeployment of surplus teachers after the district level committee collects data such as sanctioned strength of teachers, working strength of teachers, student strength, name and number of surplus teachers according to Right to Education (RTE) Act, and those proposed for redeployment.The redeployment will begin after physical verification of the data available on the UDISE portal as of Apr 30. The district level committee will seek verification and joint certification from the school’s head teacher and the block education officer.According to Sharma’s order, a minimum number of two teachers is to be provided at every institution and that no non-surplus teachers, at any institution, may be affected by the exercise.
In addition, wherever a woman surplus teacher is to be redeployed, all efforts will be made by the district level committee to redeploy such teachers first within the same block. If that is not possible, then to the nearest block well connected by road and preferably, the school nearest to her residence.Accordingly, head teachers have been asked to provide a copy of the verified data, including the sanctioned number of teachers and students, to the district level committee. Teachers whose transfer is proposed may register their objections via offline mode, before the committee until May 13.Teachers shall not currently be redeployed to those schools where two teachers are already posted as of Apr 30, Sharma stated.
