Lucknow: Prateek Yadav, the stepbrother of SP chief Akhilesh Yadav and husband of BJP member Aparna Yadav, passed away in Lucknow on Wednesday morning. He was 38. Prateek was the younger son of Mulayam Singh Yadav.Prateek’s postmortem report revealed that massive pulmonary thromboembolism caused cardiorespiratory collapse, resulting in his death. Doctors explained it as a medical condition in which a large blood clot blocks blood flow to the lungs, causing heart and breathing to fail.The postmortem was conducted by a panel of three doctors.Prateek was rushed to the Civil Hospital around 6am by Aparna’s brother Aman Singh Bisht where doctors declared him dead on arrival. Civil Hospital’s chief medical superintendent, Dr DC Pandey, said when Prateek was brought to the hospital, his pulse had completely dropped and his heart had stopped functioning.The body was sent to King George’s Medical University (KGMU) for postmortem. Doctors said an X-ray of Prateek’s chest was done before the autopsy.Heavy police deployment was done outside the postmortem house. Aparna’s brother, Aman, remained present there.Sources said Prateek had been admitted to the Medanta Hospital in Lucknow on April 30 after a major health issue. After showing signs of recovery three days later, he reportedly returned home without taking a formal discharge from the hospital.
Aparna Yadav, who was in Mumbai, reached Lucknow in the afternoon after getting the news of her husband’s death. Chief Minister Yogi Adityanath visited Prateek’s residence to pay homage to the departed soul.Prateek’s father-in-law Arvind Singh Bisht told TOI: “An attendant told us that Prateek was on the ground floor near his bedroom and had gotten up around 4am to drink water. While drinking water, the glass slipped from his hand and he fell.”Initially, the attendant assumed that Prateek might have been sleepy or unwell and did not immediately realise the seriousness of the situation. “But after hearing the sound and checking on him again, the attendant sensed something was wrong,” Bisht said.According to Bisht, the attendant then contacted his son and Aparna’s brother Aman around 5am. Aman, whose house is a short distance from Prateek’s home, reached there and took him to Civil Hospital.Prateek Yadav was the son of SP patriarch Mulayam Singh Yadav and his second wife Sadhna Gupta. Despite belonging to one of Uttar Pradesh’s most influential political families, Prateek stayed away from active politics.Educated at the University of Leeds in the UK, Prateek ran a fitness gym chain and real estate businesses. He also ran an animal welfare organisation “Jeev Ashray”, which worked for the rescue, treatment, feeding, and care of stray dogs.Prateek and Aparna got married in Dec 2011 in Saifai, Etawah, in a high-profile ceremony attended by several prominent personalities, including Bollywood megastar Amitabh Bachchan. They have two daughters.In Jan this year, the couple had briefly hit headlines after Prateek publicly announced plans to seek divorce from Aparna, alleging personal differences. However, the dispute was resolved within nine days. In Feb, Prateek shared a social media post with Aparna stating, “All is Good,”.
