Congress demands payment of dues to MGNREGA workers

Lucknow: The Uttar Pradesh Congress Committee on Saturday accused the state govt of suppressing democratic rights and failing to clear long pending dues of MGNREGA workers.UP Congress president Ajay Rai said the BJP was rattled by the Congress party's growing support. He demanded immediate payment of nearly Rs 1,600 crore pending wages under MGNREGA and warned of a statewide agitation if the dues were not paid.AICC Scheduled Caste cell chairman RP Gautam alleged that he was stopped by police at Lucknow airport while he was going to Gorakhpur to attend a Dalit Samman Samaroh in Chauri Chaura.Gautam termed the action unconstitutional, stating that the rally had been granted due permission.
