Ahead of Assam’s Assembly elections expected by April, Congress has fielded sitting MP and state PCC president Gaurav Gogoi from the Jorhat Assembly seat. The move is aimed at sending a strong message to the BJP and energizing Congress cadres in the state.Chief Minister Himanta Biswa Sarma has targeted Gogoi personally, questioning his 2013 Pakistan visit and highlighting his British wife’s professional work in the neighbouring country. The Congress candidate list also features experienced leaders and members of political families, aiming to balance legacy and organisational strength.Political analysts suggest the contest in Jorhat could become symbolic of the overall mood in Assam, turning the battle into a high-stakes face-off between Himanta Biswa Sarma and Gaurav Gogoi.
