AKTU to offer elective courses to first-year engineering students
Lucknow: The management of Dr APJ Abdul Kalam Technical University on Wednesday said that it will offer electives to first year engineering students on the lines of National Education Policy from the academic session 2026-2027. So far, the option was available to BTech second, third and fourth year students. From now onwards, students in over 750 govt and private engineering colleges affiliated with AKTU across UP will now be able to study electives from the first year itself.According to university officials, students will be given the option to choose elective courses from a group of papers so that they can acquire knowledge related to subjects outside their primary discipline.Furthermore, the curriculum for various engineering branches have also been updated in alignment with contemporary requirements. Subjects such as AI, Machine Learning, and Data Science have been incorporated with a strong practical focus.Prof Anurag Tripathi, dean of undergraduate studies at AKTU, said, “AKTU will provide 60 hours of instruction for four-credit courses."Within this framework, students will be able to opt for three theory courses and one elective course. Through these elective courses, AKTU aims to provide students with practical knowledge and real-world experience, Tripathi added.The university will also forge partnerships with various industries and companies to open opportunities for students to undertake internships, participate in industrial tours and attend expert guest lectures.
