Lucknow: Five persons, including four UP cops, were killed in a road accident on the Kundli-Manesar-Palwal (KMP) Expressway in Haryana’s Nuh district on Tuesday morning. The police team was on its way to Haryana to rescue an abducted man.
The deceased were identified as sub-inspectors Satyabhan Singh, 59, and Mohit Yadav, and constables Pradeep Kumar, 27, and Ashok Kumar, 28, — all from Jalaun police. The fifth victim was Amreek Singh, 35, a Jalaun resident and complainant in the abduction case.
The accident occurred around 10.30am near Dhulawat toll plaza when the cops’ SUV lost control while overtaking a vehicle and rammed into another vehicle. All five victims got trapped in the mangled SUV.
Chief Minister Yogi Adityanath condoled the death of police personnel in the accident and conveyed his condolences to the bereaved families. Yogi directed officials to coordinate with Haryana govt to ensure that the mortal remains of the deceased were sent to their native places at the earliest.
Officials said the state administration is taking steps to provide all assistance to the affected families.
Local police and emergency response teams rushed to the spot soon after receiving information. SHO Shishram of Tauru Sadar police station said it took considerable effort and time to extricate the bodies from the wreckage using rescue equipment.
Ambulances were called and the bodies were shifted to a nearby hospital for postmortem. Traffic on the expressway was briefly disrupted during the rescue operation.
The cops were heading to Haryana to trace Amreek’s cousin who had been abducted from Jind. Amreek had lodged an FIR with Jalaun police under Sections 140(1) and 305 (theft) of the BNS against four unidentified accused.
Officials said the team was working in coordination with the Special Operations Group and heading to Nuh to conduct a raid in connection with the abduction. Police sources said that the vehicle belonged to Amreek and he was driving it when the accident occurred.
In his FIR, Amreek had alleged that his cousin Bijender Singh, who hails from Jalaun and currently lives in Jalaun, was abducted in Haryana’s Jind by four men from an agricultural field on May 4 morning. Amreek suspects that abduction was done at the behest of some men from whom Amreek and his cousin had taken an agricultural land on lease for farming.
