Pistol, FICN nabbed along Indo-Bangla border

The Border Security Force (BSF), on Monday night, seized a pistol, bullets and fake Indian currency notes (FICN) of face value Rs 800,000 from along the Indo-Bangladesh border.

Kolkata: The Border Security Force (BSF), on Monday night, seized a pistol, bullets and fake Indian currency notes (FICN) of face value Rs 800,000 from along the Indo-Bangladesh border. While the pistol and bullets were seized near Petrapole in North 24-Parganas, the Bangladeshi smuggler carrying the FICN was nabbed in Kaliachak, Malda. Two have been arrested by the Bongaon police on charges of carrying the illegal weapon with the intention to smuggle it to Bangladesh.

"Around 11 pm on Monday, the 40Bn BSF received a tip-off an alert was received by troops of the 40Bn BSF of a possible movement of weapons couriers near the Petrapole Border Outpost. A special operation was launched at 11.40 pm. After midnight BSF stopped and searched BSF stopped two men on a motorcycle and from which they recovered and shortly after midnight a motorcycle was spotted near the International Border. The vehicle was stopped and a search revealed a plastic bag with a country-made 9 mm pistol, a magazine and eight rounds of ammunition. The two men were also were also carrying three mobile phones. The duo were handed over to the Bongaon police along with the seized items," a senior BSF officer said.
In the second case, the BSF received information regarding transaction of FICN near the Kaliachak Market on NH34. Around 6 pm on Monday, troops of the Sector HQ BSF, Malda launched a special operation with personnel from the Kaliachak police station. Around 6.45 pm, suspicious movement was noticed near the market. A person was nabbed and searched. He was A person carrying bundles of FICN wrapped in plastic of face value Rs 800,000 was nabbed. He was also carrying Rs 2,000, two mobile phones and a passport was also confiscated from him. During interrogation, the smuggler revealed that he is Anarul Islam (48), from Kharial (Monakasha) village of Shibganj, Chapainawabganj district, Bangladesh, say sources. He had entered India with a valid visa through the international check-post in Hili on November 1, 2015.
"Islam has been handed over to the Kaliaghat police station along with the FICN and other material. We are checking his connections with other FICN racketeers in India and Bangladesh. We suspect that Islam was at Kaliaganj market to hand over the FICN bundles to someone. We are trying to find out the identity of the receiver," a senior police officer said.
