KOLKATA:For MCA student Shubh Prakash Singh, it was a scheme that would rake in themoolah with every click of the mouse. The 25-year-old Delhi residentsimply replicated the website of the Kolkata office of the Railway RecruitmentBoard and promised jobs to candidates. It was computer applications' at its mostcunning, but the youth was found out. He was arrested and brought to Kolkata onThursday.Singh had launched the websitewww.railwayrecruitmentboardkolkata.com some months back and used an alias tocover his tracks. When the chairman of the Railway Recruitment Board (RRB) inKolkata, D K Srivastava, spotted it, he immediately smelt something fishy, asthe original website of the board is www.rrbkol.org. On February 20, he lodged acomplaint with Ultadanga police. The site was meticulous: Forms toapply for jobs and every other detail was posted on it. The case was finallytaken up by the detective department's cyber crime cell."Singh hadreplicated the website and, under the Contact us' column, he had given hisdetails. Whoever applied for a job through the website had to get in touch withhim," said an officer of the detective department.
The cyber crimecell got in touch with the service provider. It was found that the site wasowned by one R K Gupta. An address of New Delhi's Vasant Kunj was given.Investigating the case, the city police team found out that the name and addresswere fake."The site was registered under the name of R K Gupta andthe internet service provider was a private one," said an officer. With the helpof the service provider, police tracked down the IP address and nabbed Singhfrom his Pandavnagar residence last Tuesday. He was brought to Kolkata onThursday. He was produced at the Sealdah court, which remanded him in policecustody till August 3.Sources said that so far, they have not beenable to find anyone who fell for the trap. "We are trying to find out if anyoneapplied through the website," said Jawed Shamim, deputy commissioner of police(detective department).
