BMC launches online booking for water tankers & ferrule services

Kolkata: From now on, residents of Salt Lake and Rajarhat Gopalpur in Bidhannagar Municipal Corporation (BMC) area will be able to hire water tankers and apply for ferrule cleaning, shifting and new ferrule connections online through the BMC portal.The civic authorities on Monday inaugurated the online services for booking water tankers and new connections, shifting or cleaning of ferrules, along with inaugurating three revamped overhead water reservoirs to boost filtered water supply in Salt Lake. The civic body also laid the foundation stone of a proposed drop pumping station at the Salt Lake FF block canal side to discharge wastewater.
BMC MMIC (water supply) Tulsi Sinha Roy said that for hiring a water tanker or applying for cleaning or a new ferrule line connection, residents had to physically contact the civic authorities and submit a letter of application at the BMC offices to avail these services. "From now on, residents will be able to avail these services with ease from their homes through an online booking and payment system. A link is mentioned on the BMC website through which bookings can be made," Roy said.Civic officials said that in case a resident applies for changing or shifting a ferrule line, once the online application is completed, civic engineers will visit the house to conduct a physical inspection to determine whether the ferrule line needs to be changed or shifted. "If engineers find valid reasons to change or shift the specific ferrule connection, they will submit a report to the MMIC (water supply), who will approve it, and then the applicant will receive an SMS for online payment," said an official.With the renovation and inauguration of the three overhead water reservoirs—tank no. 3, 5 and 10—close to one lakh residents across 11 blocks and three housing estates in Salt Lake, including Karunamoyee Housing, has started receiving upgraded filtered water supply services."These three tanks—tank no. 3, 5 and 10—underwent major renovation, including jacketing. Upgradation work is going on in the other overhead reservoirs as well. All 15 overhead water reservoirs across Salt Lake are undergoing upgradation and revamp work with funds under the AMRUT scheme for the first time since the inception of the township," Roy said.The overhead water tanks in Salt Lake supply filtered water daily in four shifts to over 26,000 households and several commercial and office establishments across the township. Each of the tanks has a capacity of 12 lakh litres.
