Kolhapur: Two NCP (SP) corporators, who won the Sangli Miraj Kupwad Municipal Corporation elections around five months ago, have joined the
BJP.
State BJP president Ravindra Chavan made the announcement through his social media account that Suresh Lakshman Bandgar and Yuvraj Shivajirao Gaikwad have joined the party. The NCP (SP) could win only three seats in the corporation election.
District guardian minister Chandrakant Patil facilitated the joining of the two NCP (SP) corporators into the saffron party.
In the corporation election, Congress won 18 seats and NCP (SP) led by MLA Jayant Patil won three. Bandgar and Gaikwad won from the same ward.
In the mayor and deputy mayor elections both supported BJP candidates and now they officially joined the party. “We have got the assurance from BJP leadership to address issues of drains, water supply and development of open spaces,” Gaikwad said while talking to
TOI.
Since two out of three corporators joined the BJP they will not attract disqualification under anti-defection law.
