Kottayam: The 25-year-old woman, who was allegedly sexually harassed while being taken to hospital after a road accident in Kayamkulam, filed a complaint with state police chief against officers claiming they mishandled the case.
The complaint also demanded that a senior female police officer investigate the case to ensure justice was quickly served.
In the complaint, the woman stated that in the initial statement recorded at Kayamkulam police station after the incident, many of her statements were omitted in a manner that seemed to help the accused Sinil Sabad, a businessman.
The ‘rescuer', who allegedly assaulted her, was reportedly intoxicated and offered her money after the incident, but none of these details were recorded in her statement to police, said the complaint. She claimed that she couldn't read or write Malayalam properly. The officers at the police station took advantage of this to support the accused, she said.
When she insisted that offering the money be recorded, police responded saying such details were unnecessary. A female officer at Kayamkulam police station recorded her statement, and charges were filed such that the accused could easily obtain bail, her complaint stated.
Following the initial complaint, Sabad was summoned to the station, questioned and then released, indicating a failure on the part of police, according to the complaint.
The woman expressed doubts over receiving justice from Kayamkulam police.
