Palakkad: Relatives and residents in Karimpulli near Pattambi bid a tearful goodbye to two siblings who lost their lives in a tragic road accident in Krishnagiri, Tamil Nadu.
The deceased were identified as Divya (30), wife of Vineeth of Thekkethil House in Karimpulli, and her younger brother Deepu (28), a native of Panamanna in Ottapalam. After postmortem examination, their bodies were brought to their homes on Wednesday and later cremated amid emotional scenes.
The fatal accident occurred in the early hours of Monday while the family was returning to Kerala after a trip to Bengaluru. According to relatives, the eight-member family had begun their journey home on Sunday evening in a car.
At around 1am, one of the tyres of the vehicle burst near Kurubarapalli at Krishnagiri, forcing the family to stop by the roadside. After replacing the tyre, when the family members were getting back into the car, a speeding lorry reportedly rammed into them.
Divya and Deepak were killed on the spot because of the impact. Divya's husband Vineeth sustained serious injuries and is undergoing treatment.
Others injured in the accident include the siblings' parents Ravindran (59) and Parvathy (53), sister Ramya (34), Vineeth's mother Sarojini (68), and Divya and Vineeth's children Abhindev (12) and Akhildev (9).
