Idukki: Kerala Police's first narcotic sniffer dog ‘Neeli' (Brooze) retired from service after 11 years in the force on Wednesday. The retirement function was held at the K-9 squad complex at Kuyilimala in Idukki and was inaugurated by district police chief K M Sabu Mathew.
Neeli joined the police force on June 30, 2015. After undergoing specialised training at Kerala Police Academy in Thrissur, the female canine was inducted into the Idukki district dog squad. Over the years, Neeli became a vital asset in anti-narcotics operations, assisting police in cracking around 50 major drug cases.

Between 2017 and 2019, Neeli won accolades at state-level competitions and represented Kerala at the national police meet.
Post retirement, civil police officer P N Ranjith Mohan, who was Neeli's handler, volunteered to adopt the canine. Mohan and Jerry George were Neeli's handlers during her service.
