Just when it felt like the beef between LeBron James and Stephen A. Smith was on the verge of reconciliation, the broadcaster has made his stance clear on the Lakers legend. Nearly a year after their viral courtside confrontation in Los Angeles, the ESPN personality candidly shared that reconciliation is not on his radar. While he continues to recognize James’ historic impact on the NBA, Smith believes the Lakers star overstepped during a dispute involving his son, Bronny James. The tension dates back to March 6, 2025, when cameras captured a heated exchange between the two following the Lakers’ overtime win over the New York Knicks at Crypto.com Arena. The feud started as criticism about Bronny’s NBA role, and soon escalated into a personal clash. Since then, both men have addressed the situation publicly, each defending his own version of events.

Nearly a year later, Stephen A Smith makes his candid admission on LeBron James' beef

Stephen A Smith recently appeared on In Depth with Graham Bensinger, where he discussed several news circling around his name, including his stance on running for President. Amid the discussion, Smith was also asked about his feud with LeBron James. The ESPN analyst gave his candid reaction, “We don’t like each other.
The world needs to know that.. I hope he’s watching.”Smith continued, “I think he crossed the line with the incident involving his son. I don’t think I did what he said I was doing. I thought that was unfair and a low blow… Time heals everything. As I see his career dwindling, it’s important everyone knows that I know how great he is.”

Smith also praised James for his NBA legacy. “I know how great he has been for the game of basketball. Anybody who has been that great, people like me have benefited because he gives us something to talk about. He’s provided a certain amount of entertainment that has made an exponential amount of lives better. Just because he and I have a difference, doesn’t mean he’s not a good man.”Despite the hostility, Smith further acknowledged James’ greatness. “My daughters love LeBron. And I had to look at them and say, ‘Yeah, he is phenomenal.’ They ain't lying. He's one of the greatest ever. And so, again, you can have differences with people, but if you're a grownup, if you're a man, you're able to compartmentalize and say, 'we might have a disagreement.' We might have a beef,” Smith said. “... It doesn't mean you should look at him in a negative kind of way.

The conflict intensified after Smith criticized Bronny’s NBA minutes and questioned whether his opportunity stemmed from his father’s influence. LeBron responded publicly, saying, “That wasn't a basketball player confronting me; that was a parent, and that was a father. And I can't sit here and be angry.” He later added, “But when you take it and get personal with it, it's my job to not only protect my damn household but protect the players.Smith strongly disputed that interpretation. “LeBron James is full of it,” he said. “And in this particular instance, as it pertains to his son, he is a liar. And he went on national television... and he lied again.” He further claimed, “Because there's one person in this ordeal that's telling the truth, and it's me.”The feud remains unresolved.
