Idukki/Kozhikode: A 25-year-old man has been sentenced to 30 years of rigorous imprisonment and fined Rs 1 lakh for sexually assaulting a 16-year-old girl after luring her from Kerala to Tiruppur in Tamil Nadu.
Mohammed Riyas, a native of Tiruppur, had befriended the minor over the phone and allegedly offered her a job before asking her to travel to Tamil Nadu. The crime took place inside a sparsely crowded cinema theatre in Tiruppur in 2022. The judge of fast-track Pocso court in Painavu,
Idukki, delivered the verdict. The court ordered that the fine amount, if realised, be paid to the survivor. In case of default of payment, the convict will have to undergo an additional year of imprisonment.

According to prosecution, after the girl went missing, her father lodged a police complaint. Marayoor police later traced the girl to Tiruppur and brought her back. Details of the assault emerged when her statement was recorded.
53 years RI for raping minor girl
Meanwhile, Nadapuram fast-track special court judge Devan K Menon sentenced Muhammed Reyhan (41) to a cumulative 53 years imprisonment for aggravated penetrative sexual assault of a 13-year-old girl at her residence near Perambra, in Kozhikode, in 2023.
The court also imposed a fine of Rs 2.1 lakh on the convict.
The sexual assault occurred in Aug 2023 and information about it was communicated to child line through the girl's school teacher, the prosecutor said. The child line informed police which recorded the girl's statement.
The accused was a hotel worker and carried out the crime while he was undergoing treatment for an injury.
