Kochi: Pre-monsoon showers continue to provide solace from the scorching heat and help reduce temperature across the state.
IMD issued a yellow warning for heavy rainfall at isolated places in the state till Saturday. Ernakulam and Thrissur are very likely to receive heavy rainfall on Wednesday, Pathanamthitta, Kottayam, Ernakulam and Idukki on Thursday, Alappuzha, Thrissur, Ernakulam and Kozhikode on Friday, Thiruvananthapuram, Kollam, Pathanamthitta, Alappuzha and Kottayam on Saturday. Thunderstorm warning for the state will continue till May 11.
A significant amount of rainfall was recorded in Kozhikode, Idukki, Wayanad, Kannur, Malappuram and Palakkad on Tuesday. As per India meteorological department (IMD), very heavy rainfall of 17cm was recorded between 4pm and 6pm at Urumi in Kozhikode on Tuesday. Kalpetta in Wayanad recorded 5cm rain.
The maximum temperature 37.5Celsius on Tuesday was recorded in Punalur, followed by Palakkad with 37C.
Even as the state received pre-monsoon rainfall at many places on Tuesday, rising ultraviolet radiation was witnessed, with six districts on orange alert. The maximum UV index of 9 was reported in Munnar, the highest of the day. Pathanamthitta, Kottayam, Idukki, Palakkad, Malappuram and Kozhikode were on orange alert for high UV index, thanks to clear skies.
