Houses, roads in rural Ernakulam damaged in storm
Kochi: Day after the storm lashed across Ernakulam district on Sunday evening, more damage was reported from rural areas, including Aluva, North Paravur, Muvattupuzha and Kothamangalam taluk limits. Roads, electric poles and houses were damaged, and extensive crop damage was reported.In North Paravur alone, 28 houses were partially damaged after uprooted trees and branches fell on properties. Though the district received light rainfall on Monday evening, no damage was reported. Revenue officials said they, along with local officials, will assess the damage and submit a report to the district disaster management authority for providing compensation to affected families. Due to strong winds and rain, a tree from an adjacent vacant plot fell onto the temporary shed made of plastic sheets on top of the house of Sasidharan of Peringottil House in Manjummel, causing partial damage.At Thrikkapuram in Kottuvally panchayat, the house of Babu suffered damage after trees from a nearby plot fell onto the roof.In Ezhikkara Village, the roof of Kunjubeebath's house was damaged after a teak tree fell on it. Partial damage was caused to the roof of the house of Gangadharan at Pooyapilly. Kothamangalam and Muvattupuzha revenue officials said uprooting of trees caused damage to many roads.
