Ekm records 99.61% pass in SSLC exams
Kochi: Ernakulam district registered an impressive performance in this year's SSLC examinations, recording an overall pass percentage of 99.61. Out of the 30,578 students who appeared for the examination across the district, 30,458 became eligible for higher studies.Despite the high success rate, schools across the district witnessed a decline in the number of students securing A+ grades in all subjects, with many teachers pointing to comparatively lower scores in mathematics under the revised examination pattern. In the district, girls outperformed boys in district-level results. Of 15,715 boys who appeared for examination, 15,649 passed. Among 14,863 girls who wrote the examination, 14,809 were declared successful. A total of 2,203 students secured A+ grades in all subjects, including 1,553 girls and 650 boys. The district also recorded strong institutional performances, with 260 schools achieving a 100% pass result. Among govt schools, 81 out of 101 schools secured complete success. In the aided sector, 133 of 177 schools recorded full pass percentages, while 46 out of 52 unaided schools also achieved 100% results. Annimma V O, headmistress of Govt Girls Higher Secondary School, said the statewide decline in full A+ scores affected the school as well, especially due to lower-than-expected marks in mathematics. "Among the students who appeared for the examination, only one student was not eligible for higher studies, while 10 students secured A+ in all subjects," she said. She added that the revised curriculum and changes in the examination pattern presented a new experience for both teachers and students, which may have contributed to the reduction in top grades across the state. A teacher from Govt Higher Secondary School, Edappally, also observed that many students received comparatively lower grades in mathematics. Ernakulam district comprises four educational districts — Ernakulam, Aluva, Muvattupuzha and Kothamangalam. According to officials from deputy directorate of education (DDE), Muvattupuzha educational district recorded the highest pass percentage in the district.
