Woman, son sent to jail for running prostitution racket

Kanpur: A court on Thursday sent a woman and her son to jail for luring women with false promises of employment and forcing them into prostitution.

The duo was arrested from the Barra 4 locality on Wednesday after a victim from Kanpur Dehat filed a complaint against them.

According to the complaint, the woman alleged that she along with one of her acquaintance had met the accused woman a year ago for employment opportunity. She further said that the lady assured them of jobs, and arranged a stay for them.

However, the victim complained that the accused lady’s son, raped both friends on multiple occasions and forced them to establish physical relations with several other men. Under threats from the mother-son duo, the women were compelled to engage in physical relations with multiple individuals.

CP, Deependra Nath Chaudhary said that Barra police arrested the mother and son after receiving complaint about the prostitution racket. Additionally, two other women who were apprehended were released due to lack of evidence, he added.

Residents of the locality from where the accused were arrested told police that young men and women had been frequenting that house for a considerable time. They said that several incidents of assault had also taken place there. When questioned, the house-owning couple would say that the visitors were their acquaintances engaged in marketing work and came and went to meet them.
