Kanpur division may experience spell of rising temperature on May 7 and 8
Kanpur: Residents of Kanpur division should brace for a fresh spell of rising temperatures, as the Indian Meteorological Department (IMD) has indicated a significant increase in mercury levels over May 7 and May 8 with intermittent partial cloud cover.According to Sunil S. Pandey, weather expert at CSA University, the maximum temperature on May 7 is expected to range between 36°C and 38°C, while the minimum temperature may settle between 22°C and 26°C. The day will begin with clear skies, though light clouds are likely to develop by afternoon or evening. There is also a 30–40% possibility of light drizzle in some areas. The heat is expected to intensify further on May 8, with the maximum temperature likely to climb between 40°C and 41°C. Night temperatures may hover between 24°C and 28°C. A continued upward trend in temperatures could push the mercury up to 43°C in the following days. Moderate winds blowing at speeds of 10–15 km/h from the east and northeast directions are also expected. On May 6, the city recorded a maximum temperature of 33.6°C, which was 7.4°C below normal. Despite this, the heat impacted daily life, leading to thin traffic on roads during the afternoon hours.
The minimum temperature dropped to 19.4°C, making the night relatively cool and comfortable.North-westerly winds, with speeds ranging from 4.9 to 11.8 km/h, helped reduce the impact of humidity, which peaked at 84%.Meanwhile, on the evening of May 7, there is a possibility of strong winds accompanied by light drizzle or showers, dust storms, and isolated hailstorms. These conditions are expected to persist as long as sufficient moisture remains in the atmosphere.
