Kanpur: Truck body maker Gurucharan Singh from Fazalganj filed another case at Rawatpur police station against jailed land mafia Gajendra Singh Negi, alleging Negi swindled Rs 69.5 lakh from him in the name of providing a shop and flat and threatened to kill him when he asked him to return the money. More than a dozen cases have been registered against Negi so far. On Sep 20, Crime Branch arrested him near Ganga Barrage and remanded him and he was shifted to Maharajganj jail.
According to Gurucharan Singh, resident of Gadariyanpurwa in Fazalganj, he met Negi, resident of Kailash Vihar in Rawatpur, through his friend Atul Sharma in Oct 2016. Negi offered to sell two shops and one flat in an under-construction building in Keshavpuram, saying the work would be completed in one and a half year and he would then provide registry and possession. To secure the deal, Negi took Rs 65 lakh in cash. He later collected an additional Rs 4 lakh in cash and Rs 50,000 through RTGS in the name of construction, for which he issued a receipt.

It is alleged that Negi neither executed the registry nor handed over possession after the stipulated period. When Gurucharan Singh approached him, he evaded contact and, under pressure, threatened to kill him while claiming high connections. Gurucharan Singh said he complained to the police in 2022 but no action was taken. He then appealed again to the police commissioner. On his orders, Rawatpur police station registered a case. ADCP West Kapildev said that the matter was being investigated.
