Government must hold talks with Jagjit Dallewal soon, or the movement will spread nationwide, says farmer leaders
JIND: Farmers including representatives from four states held a meeting at the jat dharamshala in Jind district. During the meeting, Shivkumar Kakka, a farmer leader from the National Kisan Mazdoor Mahasangh in Madhya Pradesh, stated that if the government does not engage in talks with Jagjit Dallewal, who is on an indefinite hunger strike at the Khanouri Border.
Since November 26 and address the farmers' demands soon, the movement will spread beyond Punjab and Haryana to the entire country. He emphasized that all farmer organizations are united on the issue of MSP (Minimum Support Price).
The meeting was attended by many farmer leaders including KV Biju from Kerala, Sachin Mahapatra from Odisha and Manish Raja from Bundelkhand beside many others from Haryana.
After the meeting, while addressing media persons, Shivkumar Kakka said that while farmer organizations may differ ideologically, they are united on the MSP issue. He accused the government of backing out of its promises and not implementing MSP, which he claimed is a betrayal of the farmers. He urged the government to abandon its obstinacy and resume talks with the farmers.
Biju from Kerala stated that two days ago, Home Minister Amit Shah claimed that MSP had been increased by 40%, is a false and baseless statement.
Sachin Mahapatra from Odisha and Manish Raja from Bundelkhand warned that if the government does not resume talks and end Jagjit Dallewal's hunger strike soon, they will start movements in their respective states, which could spread across the country.
Farmer leader Akshay Narwal from Haryana called for all leaders to unite with determination for a larger movement. He emphasized that the MSP issue is a nationwide concern, making it essential for all farmer organizations to come together on a single platform. All organizations and Khaps in Haryana stand with the farmers at the border, he added.
Haryana farmer leaders stated that while the government claims that dialogue is the solution, it is not taking steps to initiate talks. The government has shown no concern for Jagjit Dallewal, who has been on hunger strike for 22 days. The Kisan Sangharsh Samiti, Janata Sarkar Morcha, and the National Kisan Mazdoor Mahasangh stand in solidarity with the protesting farmers, and efforts will be made to unite all farmer organizations in the state to strengthen the movement, they added.
