Street dog attacks leave 12 injured in Ujjain, 4-year-old critical
Ujjain: A series of street dog attacks left 12 people injured across the city within just four hours on Sunday, including a four-year-old boy who suffered severe facial injuries and is undergoing treatment at Charak Hospital.The most serious incident occurred in Jaithal village on Agar Road, where Priyanshu, 4, was attacked while watching kites outside his home in the evening. The child wandered into a nearby lane when a street dog suddenly pounced on him, knocked him down, and mauled his face. Neighbours rushed to the spot after hearing his cries and rescued him from the dog.He was immediately taken to the govt Charak Hospital, where doctors found deep injuries to his face and eye and shifted him to the operation theatre for emergency treatment. The child was admitted and remains under medical observation.Dr Kapil Verma, who was on duty in the emergency ward, said the child's case was the most serious among a surge of bite incidents reported in a short span. "Between 2 pm and 6 pm on Sunday, 12 people injured in dog attacks were brought to the hospital from different areas of the city. All of them were given primary treatment and anti-rabies vaccine doses," he said.
Most of the victims included children and adult men, doctors said. The spate of attacks has triggered fresh concern among residents over the growing menace of stray dogs in the city, with demands for immediate intervention by civic authorities to prevent further incidents.
