Political slugfest after CM calls Patwari a ‘tapori’

Indore: A sharp political dispute has erupted in Madhya Pradesh after chief minister Mohan Yadav launched a scathing attack on state Congress president Jitu Patwari from a rally stage in Shujalpur, prompting a swift counter-response from Patwari on his X handle.

The clash, marked by personal slurs and debates over electoral accountability, has drawn strong condemnation from senior Congress leaders, who seek an immediate apology as Yadav termed Patwari as a ‘tapori’ and ‘worst ever’ president of Congress party.

Speaking at a public rally in Shujalpur of Shajapur district, CM Yadav retaliated against Patwari’s recent remarks reportedly labeling him “Mohan Lal Abhinandan Yadav”.

Yadav responded, “Yes, we are Abhinandan Lal, but you are Tapori Lal.” Yadav criticized Patwari’s leadership, calling him an ineffective state president under whose tenure the party’s Indore Lok Sabha candidate withdrew from the contest. He added that the Congress leadership appointed a chief who failed to retain his own assembly seat and lost by 40,000 votes.

Patwari responded via his social media handle on X, questioning whether the son of a farmer is considered worthless by the CM. He noted that prominent leaders, including former Prime Minister Atal Bihari Vajpayee, had also faced electoral defeats. Patwari pledged to maintain dignified language towards the CM while promising to establish a corruption-free govt in 2028.

Senior Congress leaders strongly condemned the CM’s choice of words. Former CM Digvijaya Singh demanded an immediate apology, stating that insulting the state president demeans the entire party.

Former CM Kamal Nath also criticized Yadav on X, accusing the BJP govt of corruption in the Vyapam and nursing sectors rather than delivering actual medical infrastructure. Nath claimed credit for initiating the Chhindwara Medical College and the Mahakal Corridor during his own tenure.

Prior to the rally, Yadav conducted a roadshow and monitored the Prime Minister’s Mann Ki Baat broadcast. He inaugurated and laid foundation stones for development projects worth approximately Rs 350 crore in Shujalpur.

The announced infrastructure upgrades include establishment of an engineering college in Shujalpur, a two-lane road connecting the Shujalpur police post to Kalapipal via Bhilkhedi, a ring road linking Ashta Road to Pachore Road via Freeganj, a new college and a bypass road in Akodia and Golana respectively and 80 residential quarters for police personnel and additional police deployment at the Mandi station.

CM in Indore to attend BJP training workshop

Yadav arrived in Indore on Sunday evening to attend the Bharatiya Janata Party’s (BJP) training workshop.

Addressing the gathering, the CM emphasized that under Prime Minister Narendra Modi’s leadership, the slogan ‘Sabka Saath, Sabka Vikas, Sabka Prayas, Sabka Vishwas’ has been transformed from a mere statement into visible action. He noted that the party’s training sessions follow this exact methodology, inspiring workers to integrate these core values into their public and social lives.

Yadav contrasted the BJP’s organizational stability with other political groups, stating that while rival parties continuously fracture, the Congress has split so many times it is difficult to keep count. He asserted that such fragmentation does not happen within the BJP because its workers are driven by a shared ideology.

Guided by the principle of “Nation First,” party workers dedicate themselves to the organization’s mission.

Later in the evening, the CM visited Rajwada, where he garlanded the statue of Devi Ahilya Bai Holkar. Following this, he attended the Ahilya Utsav celebrations held at Gandhi Hall.
